E-Scooters / E-Bikes |

Dear Resident We are working hard to tackle E-scooters and usage in Lawley And Overdale and the information provided to us by residents can be essential in taking action to make a difference where you live.
Although e-scooters are available to buy, they are currently illegal to use on public roads, pavement, cycle lanes and pedestrian-only area unless part of a legal e-scooters loan scheme. As there are no legal e-scooter schemes in place in Telford, e-scooters can only be ridden on private land with permission of the land-owner.
E-scooters are currently classed as Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs) by the Government and fall under the same laws and regulations that apply to all motor vehicles in terms of requiring insurance, tax, MOT, licence and registration.
There is no mechanism in place at the moment to obtain any of these for e-scooters so as this requirement can't be met, their use in public areas is illegal. Anyone found using them in public areas risk having the e-scooter seized by the police.
In an emergency or a crime is in progress call 999. If you aren’t comfortable contacting us directly, you can pass on information anonymously to the independent charity, Crimestoppers, by calling 0800 555 111 or by visiting their website: www.crimestoppers-uk.org Thank you for your help. It is only by the police and the public working together that we can prevent and detect crime.
Kind regards,
PCSO 40649 MULHALL
